In short
- Cookies here are only used for analytics (Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity) and to remember small preferences.
- There are no advertising or retargeting cookies on this website.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time without losing access to the site.
01 What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work the same way. They let a site remember information between pages or visits.
02 Analytics cookies
These help me understand how visitors use the site so I can improve it.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps track of the current session | 2 years |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Remembers a random Clarity user ID for this site | About 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Joins page views into one recorded session | 1 day |
CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser | About 1 year |
MUID, MR, SM, ANONCHK | Microsoft | Support cookies Microsoft may set alongside Clarity | From one session up to about 1 year |
Expiry times are the defaults set by Google and Microsoft. Browsers may delete cookies sooner, for example Safari limits some cookies to 7 days.
03 Preferences (browser storage)
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
theme | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode | Until you clear it |
chat-nudge | Session storage | Stops the chat greeting from popping up again | When you close the tab |
04 Third-party embeds and hosting
- Google Maps: the map in the footer is loaded from Google, which may set its own cookies.
- Calendly: the booking calendar on the booking page is loaded from Calendly, which sets its own cookies when you use it.
- YouTube: videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and only load after you press play.
- Cloudflare: my hosting provider may set a short-lived security cookie to tell real visitors apart from bots.
05 How to control cookies
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings (Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all allow this). The site still works without them.
- Use the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics on all websites.
- Use your browser's "Do Not Track" or tracking-protection features, or a content blocker.
