How to Give Access to Google Search Console
Google Search Console shows how your website appears in Google Search: which searches bring visitors, and any errors that stop pages from showing up. Adding me as a user lets me check your site's health without needing your password.
analyticsbychamok@gmail.comBefore you start
- Owner permission on the Search Console property (only owners can add users)
- To know which property is your website. A "Domain" property covers the whole site; older "URL-prefix" properties may need adding one by one
- My email address: analyticsbychamok@gmail.com
Why I need this access
- 01 Check that Google can find and index your important pages, and spot errors that hide them from search results.
- 02 Submit or fix your sitemap and request re-indexing of pages after changes.
- 03 See which search terms bring visitors, to guide your SEO and Google Ads keyword choices.
- 04 Review page experience, mobile usability and structured-data (rich result) reports for problems.
Which role to choose
Full. Full lets me see all the data and take the everyday actions I need, such as submitting sitemaps and requesting indexing. It cannot add or remove users or change critical property settings, so ownership stays with you. Restricted is view-only and would stop me from fixing anything. Owner is not needed; the only exception is linking Search Console to Google Analytics 4, where Google asks for a verified owner, and we can do that step together in a minute.
Step by step
- 1
Open Search Console
search.google.com/search-console
Sign in at search.google.com/search-console and choose your website from the property menu at the top left.
- 2
Open Users and permissions
SettingsUsers and permissions
Click "Settings" in the left-hand menu, then "Users and permissions".
- 3
Add a user
Add user
Click "Add user" and type analyticsbychamok@gmail.com.
- 4
Choose the permission
PermissionFull
Set the permission to "Full" and click "Add". I get access straight away.
After you send the invite
- I will confirm by email when I can see your property and let you know about any urgent indexing problems I find.
- If you have more than one property for the same site (for example http and https versions), repeat the steps for each, or tell me and I will check which one matters.
- To remove access later: go to Settings, Users and permissions, click the three dots next to my email and choose "Remove access".
Google Search Console access: common questions
Why not Owner?
Owner can add and remove other users and change critical settings. My work doesn't need that, so Full is the safer choice. If we need to link Search Console to GA4, which requires an owner, I will walk you through that one step.
Is this the same as Google Analytics access?
No. Search Console and Google Analytics are separate tools with separate user lists. If we work on both, please add me in each.
Can you change my website through Search Console?
No. Search Console only reports how Google sees your site and lets me ask Google to re-check pages. It cannot edit your website.
I don't see "Add user". Why?
You are probably a Full or Restricted user, not an owner. Ask the property's owner (often your web developer) to add me, or to make you an owner first.
