How to Give Access to Your Shopify Store
To install tracking on Shopify I need my own login to your store, never your password. The best way is a free collaborator account: I send a request, you approve it and tick only the permissions I need. If you prefer, you can add me as a staff member instead.
analyticsbychamok@gmail.comBefore you start
- Store owner access, or a staff account allowed to manage users and permissions
- Your store's myshopify.com address (for example yourstore.myshopify.com), shown in Settings
- Your 4-digit collaborator request code, if your store asks for one
Why I need this access
- 01 Add Google Tag Manager, GA4 and Meta Pixel tracking to your theme so page views and add-to-cart actions are recorded
- 02 Set up a custom pixel in Customer events so checkout and purchase events are tracked on Shopify's checkout
- 03 Connect tracking apps (for example the Stape or Meta apps) that send purchase data server-side for better accuracy
- 04 Check store settings such as your domain, currency and checkout setup so the numbers match your orders
Which role to choose
Collaborator account with: Themes + Edit code, Apps, Manage settings, View customer events + Manage and add custom pixels, Marketing. These cover the theme code, the Customer events (pixel) area, apps and settings that tracking touches. I do not need Orders, Customers, Finances or Payments permissions, so leave those unticked. Collaborator accounts are free and do not use one of your staff seats.
Step by step
My email is analyticsbychamok@gmail.com. I send the request from my Shopify Partner account, so you do not type my email anywhere. I may ask you for your store's myshopify.com address and your 4-digit collaborator request code.
- 1
Find your collaborator request code
SettingsUsersSecurityCollaborators
In your Shopify admin open "Settings" then "Users" (called "Users and permissions" in some admins) and look for the "Collaborators" section, which may sit on a "Security" tab. Copy the 4-digit collaborator request code and send it to me with your myshopify.com address.
- 2
I send the request
Shopify Partner / Dev DashboardStoresRequest access
I send a collaborator request from my Shopify Partner account and choose only the permissions listed on this page. You do not need to do anything in this step.
- 3
Review the request
SettingsUsersCollaborators
You get an email and a notification in your admin. Open it with "Review request" and check that it comes from Chamok Mahonto (analyticsbychamok@gmail.com). If you do not recognise a request, do not accept it.
- 4
Check the permissions and accept
Collaborator requestPermissionsAccept request
Make sure "Themes", "Edit code", "Apps", "Manage settings", "View customer events" and "Manage and add custom pixels" are ticked. You can untick anything else, such as Orders or Customers. Click "Accept request".
- 5
Let me know
Send me a short message once accepted. I will log in with my own account and confirm I can see Themes, Apps and Customer events.
After you send the invite
- I log in with my own collaborator account, confirm access and start the tracking setup. Every change I make is done under my own name, so it is easy to see who did what.
- To remove access later: go to "Settings" then "Users", click my name and choose "Remove collaborator account" (or "Remove staff" for a staff account), then confirm. You may be asked for your password.
- You can also reduce my permissions at any time from the same page without removing me.
Shopify access: common questions
Does a collaborator account cost anything?
No. Collaborator accounts are free and do not use one of your staff seats.
Why do you need Edit code?
Shopify separates theme editing from code editing. Some tracking (for example a Google Tag Manager snippet or a data layer) has to be added to the theme files, which needs Edit code.
What are Customer events and custom pixels?
Customer events is the Shopify area where tracking pixels run, including on the checkout and thank-you page. I add a custom pixel there so purchases are tracked reliably.
Where is my myshopify.com address?
It is shown in your Shopify admin under Settings and in the browser address bar on some admin pages. It looks like yourstore.myshopify.com, even if your customers see your own domain.
