How to Give Access to Your Meta Pixel (Dataset) and Ad Account
Your Meta Pixel (now called a dataset) and your ad account live inside your Meta Business portfolio, which used to be called Business Manager. You can give me access to just those two assets, without sharing your login and without handing over your Pages or billing. It takes a few minutes and you can remove me at any time.
analyticsbychamok@gmail.comBefore you start
- Full control of your Meta Business portfolio (only people with full control can invite others or add partners)
- Your Meta Pixel / dataset and ad account already inside that Business portfolio
- A computer browser (the settings are easiest on desktop at business.facebook.com/settings)
Why I need this access
- 01 Check that your Pixel is firing the right events (PageView, Lead, Purchase, etc.) in Events Manager and fix what is missing or duplicated
- 02 Set up the Conversions API, which sends your conversions from your server or CRM to Meta so fewer sales are lost to ad blockers and iPhone privacy settings
- 03 Improve your Event Match Quality and deduplicate browser and server events so Meta does not double-count
- 04 Set up or check conversion events and custom conversions in your ad account so your campaigns optimise for real results
- 05 Review ad performance against your actual leads and sales, if you hire me for ads work
Which role to choose
Dataset: Full control ("Manage events dataset") + Ad account: Partial access ("Manage campaigns" and "View performance"). To set up the Conversions API I need to change the dataset's settings and generate an access token in Events Manager, and in practice that needs full control of the dataset. Partial access ("Use events dataset") only lets me view data and use it in ads, which is not enough for setup. For the ad account, partial access lets me set up conversion tracking and build or adjust campaigns without touching your billing, payment methods or who has access. If you only want tracking work and no campaign changes, choose "View performance" on the ad account instead.
Step by step
analyticsbychamok@gmail.com (to invite me as a person). For the partner method you will need my Business portfolio ID instead: I will send you my Business portfolio ID on WhatsApp.
- 1
Open Business settings
business.facebook.com/settings
Log in and open Business settings (also reachable from Meta Business Suite via "Settings"). If you have more than one Business portfolio, make sure the one that owns your Pixel and ad account is selected at the top left.
- 2
Go to People
UsersPeople
In the left menu, under "Users", click "People", then click "Invite people".
- 3
Enter my email
Invite people
Type analyticsbychamok@gmail.com. For business portfolio access choose "Partial access" (not "Full control"), and do not add any finance permissions. Click "Next".
- 4
Assign the dataset (Pixel)
Datasets
In the asset list, choose "Datasets" (your Pixel appears here), tick your dataset, and switch on "Full control" / "Manage events dataset" for it.
- 5
Assign the ad account
Ad accounts
Choose "Ad accounts", tick the ad account I will work on, and under partial access tick "Manage campaigns" and "View performance". Leave "Manage ad account" (full control) off.
- 6
Send the invite
Invite
Review and click "Invite" (or "Send request"). I accept from my own Facebook account. Until I accept, the invite shows as pending under "People".
After you send the invite
- I will accept the invite (or the partner share) and confirm on WhatsApp or email once I can see your dataset in Events Manager and your ad account in Ads Manager.
- If something is missing I will tell you exactly which asset or permission to add, so you never have to give more than needed.
- To remove me later: Business settings → Users → People → select my name → remove me from the business portfolio (or remove access to a single asset). For the partner method: Business settings → Users → Partners → select my business → remove it.
Meta Business portfolio access: common questions
Where is my Pixel? I only see "Datasets".
Meta renamed Pixels to datasets. A dataset holds your Pixel events and your Conversions API events together, so share the dataset that has your Pixel ID.
Why do you need full control of the dataset?
Setting up the Conversions API means changing dataset settings and generating an access token in Events Manager. Partial access only lets me view data and use it in ads. If you prefer, you can generate the token yourself and share it privately, and then partial access is enough.
Can I give access through my Facebook Page instead?
No. Page access does not include your Pixel or ad account. Those have to be shared from Business settings as shown above.
Which method should I choose, person or partner?
Either works. Inviting me by email is quicker. The partner method shares assets with my Business portfolio, which keeps your list of people clean and is easy to remove in one click.
