How to Give Access to WordPress and WooCommerce

To set up tracking on WordPress I need my own user account on your site, not your login. You create it in a minute from the Users menu and choose the Administrator role, because tracking plugins can only be installed by an administrator. You can delete the account as soon as we are done.

Invite this emailanalyticsbychamok@gmail.com

Before you start

  • An Administrator account on your WordPress site (only administrators can create other administrators)
  • Your site's admin address, usually yourdomain.com/wp-admin

Why I need this access

  • 01 Install and set up tracking plugins such as GTM4WP (Google Tag Manager for WordPress) or the Stape plugin for server-side tracking
  • 02 Add the Google Tag Manager container so GA4, Meta Pixel and other tags load on every page
  • 03 Send WooCommerce events (view item, add to cart, checkout, purchase) to the data layer so sales are tracked correctly
  • 04 Check the theme, caching and cookie-consent plugins that often block or duplicate tracking

Which role to choose

Administrator. Installing, activating and configuring plugins is only allowed for Administrators in WordPress. The WooCommerce "Shop manager" role can manage products and orders but cannot install or activate plugins or edit theme files, so it is not enough for tracking setup.

Step by step

    UsersAdd New User

In the left menu go to "Users" and click "Add New User" (called "Add New" in older WordPress versions).

  3. 3

    Fill in my details

    UsersAdd New User

Username: chamok (or anything you like). Email: analyticsbychamok@gmail.com. First name Chamok, last name Mahonto. Leave the suggested password as it is.

  4. 4

    Send me the account email

    Send User Notification

Keep "Send the new user an email about their account" ticked. I will get a link to set my own password, so you never need to send me one.

  5. 5

    Choose the Administrator role

    RoleAdministrator

In the "Role" dropdown choose "Administrator" and click the "Add New User" button at the bottom.

After you send the invite

  • I set my password from the email, log in and confirm I can see the Plugins menu. Then I install and configure the tracking.
  • Before installing anything I check for existing tracking plugins so nothing is counted twice.
  • To remove access later: "Users" > "All Users" > hover over my username > "Delete", attribute content to yourself and confirm. Or change my role to "Subscriber" if you want to keep the account for later support.
FAQ

WordPress & WooCommerce access: common questions

Why Administrator and not Shop manager?

In WordPress only Administrators can install and activate plugins. Shop manager is designed for running the shop (orders, products) and cannot add the tracking plugins I need.

Will you see my customers' orders?

An Administrator can technically see orders. I only use them to check that tracked purchases match real ones, and I never export or share customer data.

My site is on WordPress.com. Does this still work?

The steps are similar, but on WordPress.com installing plugins depends on your plan. If you cannot see a Plugins menu, tell me and we will pick a different setup.

Can I give access through my hosting company instead?

Not needed. A WordPress user is enough for tracking. I do not need hosting, FTP or database access.
